MIDMEKI food X-ray inspection system for medium packages and multipacks

MIDMEKI is Mekitec’s 200 W conveyorized food X-ray inspection system for medium-sized packages, multipacks and trays. Conveyor load, speed and product length depend on the selected configuration.
  • X-ray power 40–80 kV, maximum 200 W
  • Height-dependent product fit
  • Product length up to 500 mm, configuration-specific
  • Conveyor load up to 20 kg and conveyor speed up to 1.0 m/s, both configuration-specific

Published maximum load, length and speed values are configuration-specific and are not automatically available together.

What is MIDMEKI?

MIDMEKI is a 200 W conveyorized food X-ray inspection system manufactured by Mekitec for medium-sized primary packages, multipacks and trays. It inspects packaged food for foreign objects; conveyor load, speed and product length depend on the selected configuration.

Detection performance is application-specific. Mekitec confirms it by testing the actual food, package, target foreign materials, line conditions and reject configuration.

MIDMEKI X-Ray Quality Control for Medium Packages

MIDMEKI combines the compact MEKI™ design with a wider conveyor and a larger detection area to accommodate larger primary packaged food products.

It is designed for the inspection of medium-sized products and trays of smaller products. As with other Mekitec X-ray systems, high moisture, salt content, or different types of packaging materials (e.g. metal or aluminum) are not a problem for the inspection.

Food X-ray inspection and quality-control functions

Foreign-object detection

The system creates an X-ray image and can be configured to detect foreign objects made of materials that create sufficient X-ray contrast, including metal, stone, glass, calcified bone and some dense plastics. Detectability depends on the object’s material, size, shape, orientation and location as well as the food, package and line conditions.

MEKI AI quality checks

With MEKI AI, relevant quality checks will include counting and filling, missing or excess product, seal inspection, clip inspection, cavern detection and organic-material detection. Fill-level and cap inspection are used where the product and package geometry make those functions relevant.

How it works

A package, tray or multipack travels through the MIDMEKI inspection zone. The 200 W system evaluates the configured inspection criteria and sends a rejection signal to the reject system selected for the product and line.

Customer evidence

“The X-ray system is very easy to use, and it gave us more features and benefits at a better price point than metal detection technology.”

Questions and answers

Can MIDMEKI’s maximum load, speed and product length be combined?

Not automatically. Up to 20 kg load, up to 500 mm product length and up to 1.0 m/s speed are configuration-specific published maxima. Mekitec confirms the valid combination for the application.

Can MIDMEKI inspect food in foil or metallized packaging?

Yes. X-ray inspection can be used with foil and metallized packaging because it evaluates X-ray absorption rather than the electromagnetic response used by a metal detector. The actual food and package must still be tested.

Key Features

200 W inspection platform

The published generator range is 40–80 kV with a maximum power of 200 W.

Medium-package product envelope

Available product width changes with height and must be checked against the official curve.

Configuration-specific handling limits

Load, speed and product length must be confirmed as a valid configuration rather than combined as independent maxima.

Air or pusher rejection

An air reject or pusher with bins can be selected for the confirmed product, package and production line.
